CIA triad

Three things can go wrong with information. Somebody sees it who should not. Somebody changes it and you do not notice. Or you cannot get to it when you need it. Security has names for those three: confidentiality, integrity and availability.

They go wrong one at a time. Your medical records can leak without a single word in them being altered. Or the hospital's computers can be down all day while every record stays private and correct. Which one you care about most depends on what the thing is for. For a payroll run, being wrong is worse than being late. For an ambulance service, being late is the disaster.
