Release approvals

An approval gate puts a person between code and production, and its value depends entirely on whether they can see enough to say no.

An approver shown a build number and a green tick is providing a signature rather than a judgement. One shown what changed, what it touches and what the tests found is providing oversight. The former is common, and it satisfies an audit while adding nothing.
