Incident communications

Incidents are lost organisationally at least as often as technically.

Silence gets filled. Customers, staff, regulators and journalists will form a view from whatever information exists, and late or inconsistent updates do more lasting damage than the original event. This is also why communications have to be planned in advance: during an incident you often cannot use your own email, and the people who can approve a statement may be exactly the ones unavailable.
