Patching
Patching means installing the fixes that software makers put out, usually because somebody found a flaw.
The reason it gets delayed is honest rather than lazy: updates change things, and changed things sometimes break. So the real question is not whether people intend to patch quickly, it is whether they can afford to be wrong. Somewhere with a tested way to undo an update and get back to working can install things the same week. Somewhere with no way back will always hesitate, and will still be exposed months later. Speed comes from having a route back, not from good intentions.
