Historian servers

A process historian collects operational data and, unlike most OT systems, is deliberately reachable from the business network.

That is its purpose: people need the production figures. It therefore sits across a boundary that everything else is designed to respect, which makes it a well-trodden route between the two worlds. Its exposure is a design decision rather than an oversight, which means it needs designing for rather than discovering.
