Backups

A backup is a spare copy of the things you could not replace by buying them again. Photographs, records, anything with your own history in it.

The mistake nearly everybody makes is treating "I have a backup" as the finish line. Backups fail quietly. Drives die in drawers, cloud syncing turns itself off, folders silently stop being included. The only thing that tells you a backup works is trying to get something back out of it. Restore one file, today, and see what happens. That five minutes is worth more than any amount of confidence about the setup.
