Data sovereignty
Where data physically sits, whose law reaches it, and whether it is legally required to stay put are three separate questions that get merged into one.
Storing data in a country does not necessarily put it beyond another country's legal reach, particularly where the provider is subject to that jurisdiction. Conversely, some obligations concern access rather than location. Answering "is it in the UK" often answers none of what was actually being asked.
