Risk communication

Words like likely, significant and remote are read as wildly different probabilities by different people.

Studies on this are consistent and the ranges overlap enormously: one person's likely is another's fifty-fifty. Attaching numbers to the words, even rough ones, removes a category of misunderstanding that otherwise persists undetected through an entire risk discussion.
